Deceased Name: GORDON ''GORDY'' COHEN

Gordon ''Gordy'' Cohen, 89, formerly of Kenwood Avenue, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in United Hospital of St. Paul.

 

He was born April 11, 1910, to Eleck and Ester (Sepsovich) Cohen in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1928. He worked for Minnesota Woolen Mills for 42 years as office manager in charge of personnel and purchasing, retiring in 1975. He was an officer of the Duluth branch of the International Administrative Management Association where he was awarded the International Merit Award Key and Scroll for his contributions in the field of office management. He was involved in Boy Scout work for over 70 years. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a youth, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, which was given by the Lake Superior Boy Scout Council for his scout work and activities in the community. He held the positions of scoutmaster and troop chairman, and was a member of the district commissioner staff. He also received the Shofar Award when he was a scout leader in Troop 17, which was sponsored by the B'nai B'rith Covenant Lodge. Gordy was an Army veteran of World War II, a board member and past president of the Adas Israel Congregation, a life member of the B'nai B'rith Covenant Lodge and a charter member of the Jewish Fellowship Club.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia on Oct. 20, 1996; sisters Sadie Rigner and Sarah Jordan; and a brother, Morris Colt.

 

Survivors include his brother, Irvin Colt of Stanton, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Service: noon Sunday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial in Adas Israel Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America; or the Sholom Home East, 1554 Midway Parkway, St. Paul, MN 55108. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.
